Ched Evans scores only goal as Fleetwood beat Charlton

Ched Evans put his deadline-day drama behind him as he scored the only goal of the game as Fleetwood beat Charlton 1-0.

Evans, on loan at Town from Sheffield United, reportedly saw a late move to Bolton fall through on Thursday.

But he showed he had not lost his focus as his 68th-minute strike gave Fleetwood all three points in the Sky Bet League One clash at Highbury.

It was a tepid first half, with the visitors having the best chance of the period when Ben Purrington’s close-range effort was kept out by a combination of Town striker Ashley Nadesan and goalkeeper Alex Cairns.

Nadesan fired over while Evans shot straight at goalkeeper Dillon Phillips, but it was the introduction of Ash Hunter and Jack Sowerby in the 61st minute that sparked Town’s attack.

Within seven minutes, Hunter’s ball in from the left was nodded down by Paddy Madden into the path of Evans who fired home.

Evans went close to a second but he sent the ball crashing past the right post after Phillips found himself out of his box.

Charlton ended the game with 10 men as Patrick Bauer, who was booked in the 67th minute for a foul on James Wallace, was shown a second yellow with three minutes left after bringing down on Evans.
