Mourinho was dismissed as Old Trafford boss in December with United fifth in the league.
Jose Mourinho has emerged as a potential replacement for under fire Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti
Ex-clubs Real Madrid and Inter both emerged as possible destinations for Mourinho but reports in Italy claim the 55-year-old favours a return to the San Siro.
Inter boss Luciano Spalletti finds himself third in Serie A with his side suffering a poor run of form in recent weeks that have seen them fall 20 points adrift of leaders Juve.
Spalletti’s side were beaten 1-0 away at Bologna on Sunday after being dumped out of the Coppa Italia in the quarter-finals against Lazio.
Inter have not won in their last three league games and Italian outlet Libero claim Mourinho has urged his agent to force through a move to San Siro.

The report claims Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes has opened talks with Inter CEO Beppe Marotta on a Serie A return for The Special One.
Spalletti’s job is understood to be at risk having conceded their chances of winning the league and being knocked out of the domestic cup.
Former Chelsea and Juventus boss Antonio Conte is thought to be Inter’s No1 replacement for the under-fire Spalletti.
However, Mourinho, who spent 2008-2010 at San Siro, is still on the shortlist of potential replacements.
