Leyton Orient held by Hartlepool

Leyton Orient saw their lead at the top of the National League cut to a single point following a 1-1 draw at Hartlepool.
Pools made a lively start but fell behind to the first noteworthy opportunity of the game in the 27th minute as Jobi McAnuff’s low shot from the edge of the box took a heavy deflection to beat goalkeeper Scott Loach.
Macauley Bonne failed to make the most of a Loach error and it was all square in first-half stoppage time when good work from Luke James set up strike partner Nicke Kabamba and he slotted in.
Peter Kioso should have done better with a free header from a corner, James volleyed wide and Josh Hawkes fired in a tame shot as Hartlepool started the second half brightly.
They spurned the chance to go in front from the penalty spot in the 59th minute when substitute Liam Noble’s kick was saved by Dean Brill.
Loach made a fine save to deny McAnuff as Hartlepool held on for a deserved point.
