Bryan Hughes enjoys winning start as Wrexham boss

Bryan Hughes’ reign as Wrexham boss began with a 1-0 victory over Dagenham in the Vanarama National League.
Hughes became the Dragons’ third manager of the season on Wednesday and his new side’s win moves them up to third in the table.
The hosts almost took the lead after 26 minutes but captain Shaun Pearson headed wide from a well-worked free-kick.
Wrexham went even closer on the stroke of half-time as Bobby Grant’s effort came back off the bar.
The Dragons continued to press and, after Grant and James Jennings went close, they eventually took the lead through Stuart Beavon.
Jennings provided the cross and the on-loan Coventry forward was on hand to smash home from close range with 17 minutes left.
Akil Wright had two chances to double the hosts’ lead but Daggers keeper Elliot Justham was equal to both efforts.
