Barnsley extend unbeaten run to 13 after draw with Burton

Promotion-chasing Barnsley stretched their unbeaten Sky Bet League One run to 13 games after a 0-0 draw with Burton.

But the Tykes will consider it as a missed opportunity to strengthen their grip on second after their lead over third-placed Sunderland was cut to four points.

In truth, this was a drab affair with few clear-cut chances and the highlight of the evening was watching Barnsley fan Steve Croft lead the two sides out in this re-arranged fixture.

Five months ago, Croft suffered a cardiac attack in the abandoned home match against the Brewers, and the 61-year-old proudly strode out onto the pitch ahead of the two teams, along with members of the emergency services on a night of fundraising for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, who were on the scene that day in September.

Following a concerted spell of early pressure, Jamie Allen fired narrowly wide for Burton, who started the game well.

It took Barnsley a quarter of an hour to find their stride, with Mike Bahre first having a shot blocked and a minute later firing an effort narrowly over.

Cauley Woodrow then produced a fine save from Brewers keeper Bradley Collins, before late in the half, Jacob Brown headed Ryan Hedges’ cross just off target.

Woodrow blazed Hedges’ cross over just before the hour mark, but chances were at a premium, before Brown saw an effort cleared off the line by Burton skipper Jake Buxton after 76 minutes and that was about as good as it got.
