JOSE MOURINHO is chomping at the bit to get back into football…because he hasn’t won a trophy for 18 months.

Mourinho has been out of work since being sacked by Manchester United in December and has been linked with a return to a former club Real Madrid.

The serial trophy winner last picked up a major title when leading the Red Devils to Europa League glory in 2017.

And while Mourinho is dying to return to the dugout, he remained tight-lipped on talk that he is set for a return to the Bernabeu - after La Liga president Javier Tebas said it would be a “great spectacle”.

He said: “I am really young for a manager. Age is also in your brain, your heart and in your passion.

“I am no different at all to when I started in football. The fact that I have a big desire is because I haven’t won a trophy for 18 months.

Speaking on beIN SPORTS, Mourinho added: ‘Honestly, in relation to the words of Mr Tebas, the league president, I think it’s very flattering the fact that he names me as somebody that could bring something to his Liga.

“He’s doing amazing work in Spain and to mention me is very flattering.

‘Mr Calderon, obviously an ex-president of Real Madrid, I’m pretty sure that probably he has some general information about the club of his passion but he knows more than me.

“He knows more than me! Because I know absolutely nothing about it at all.’”

Mourinho, 56, landed one La Liga gong with Los Blancos but failed to win the Champions League, suffering heartbreak along the way after being knocked out in the semi-finals in three consecutive years.

Since 2014 they have won three European titles in four years – and Mourinho believes the foundations were laid down under his tenure.

He said: “We didn’t win the Champions League in my period. We lost in the semi-finals, which probably we shouldn’t as we were so close.

“It was really, really hard but probably we started the foundations of a certain mentality, of a certain organisation, and then the club after that made it absolutely unbelievable by winning the number of titles they did.”
