ARSENAL have agreed a three-year contract for Monchi to become their new director after he and Roma parted company.

The Serie A club’s transfer chief left by mutual consent following the sacking of manager Eusebio di Francesco earlier today.

Monchi has already had his future it sorted and is set to head for the Emirates.

The 50-year-old Spaniard has been courted by Arsenal throughout the season as a potential solution as a sporting director.

The Gunners have undergone vast changes behind the scenes since Arsene Wenger’s departure at the end of last season.

Even before that, though, Arsenal’s recruitment staff had changed with the arrival of Sven Mislintat, who ultimately quit last month.

Monchi will work alongside head of football operations Raul Sanllehi at Arsenal.

He has already received an offer from the Gunners following Unai Emery’s recommendation.

The pair worked successfully together at Sevilla and are now poised to be reunited in north London.

According to The Sun, Monchi will arrive at Arsenal ‘imminently’ on a three-year deal.

As a result, he will be able to swiftly begin identifying potential new signings before the summer transfer window opens in June.

Arsenal could confirm the appointment by the weekend.

Monchi’s exit comes off the back of season-crushing defeats in Serie A to rivals Lazio and in the Champions League to Porto.

Their exit from European football on Wednesday in Portugal came with the team sitting fifth in the Serie A table and struggling.

Monchi only joined Roma in April 2017 after a 17-year spell with Sevilla.

But now he is set to head for Arsenal where Emery will hope the sporting director can identify some gems in the market.

Arsenal are likely to have another restricted budget come the summer and need to spend wisely, having had to target just loan deals in January.

Emery could only bring in Denis Suarez with an option to buy from Barcelona in the mid-season window to help his fifth-placed team who are now in danger of being dumped out the Europa League by Rennes following yesterday’s 3-1 first-leg defeat in France.

Meanwhile, Monchi’s arrival would end any suggestion of Marc Overmars making a return to Arsenal.

The Gunners’ former winger had been targeted as an option at Ajax where has overseen the club’s transfer activity in recent times.

The Dutch side are seeing results with a host of young talented players flourishing, shown with their 4-1 victory away to Real Madrid on Tuesday and progression to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Ajax, though, were understandably reluctant to lose Overmars and Arsenal have sealed a move for Monchi instead.
