Ajax wonderkid Matthijs de Ligt has said he is open to the possibility of a move to Liverpool and a potential link-up with Virgil Van Dijk.
The 19-year-old led his side to a stunning 4-1 victory over reigning European champions Real Madrid in midweek – leading to further speculation on his future.
Matthijs de Ligt is being chased by Europe’s top clubs
De Ligt has made his name as one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Europe after putting some commanding performances for his side at the heart of defence.
He also has leadership qualities beyond his years after being made the club’s youngest ever captain at just 18 years old.
Barcelona are thought to be favourites for his signature after president Pep Bartomeu admitted a bid for him was “on the table”.
The Catalan club have already signed his team-mate and compatriot Frenkie de Jong in a £65million deal – which will be confirmed next season.
But speaking to Goal, De Ligt has admitted a move to Merseyside could be on the cards.
Speaking about Van Dijk and a potential move to Liverpool, he said: “It could happen.
De Ligt has said he would love to learn from Van Dijk
"He plays for Liverpool, a good club, but I’m not focused on them. I focus on Ajax and then I’ll see where I end up.”
Liverpool are certainly interested in the defender but they face stiff competition for his signature as Premier League rivals Manchester City and Arsenal are also admirers.
