Trent Alexander-Arnold has explained how Liverpool's victories, when not playing at their best, have gone "unnoticed" this season.

The Reds were made to work for three points against Fulham on Sunday, scoring a penalty in the final 10 minutes to secure a 2-1 win at Craven Cottage.

5. As such, the club showed signs of a hangover against Fulham, but still managed to get the job done.

A round trip to Bavaria on Wednesday saw Jurgen Klopp and his side beat Bayern Munich 3-1 on aggregate in the Champions League round-of-16.

That may explain why the Reds were showing signs of fatigue against Fulham, with the club not as refined as they have been in recent outings.

However, goals from in-form Sadio Mane and James Milner were enough to cancel out Ryan Babel's late effort, clinching maximum reward in unconvincing fashion.

Alexander-Arnold had a tough battle against the former Reds winger at the weekend, with most of the Liverpool squad appearing slightly jaded, but he believes "unnoticed" victories in this manner will be the deciding factor come the end of the campaign.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "At the business end of the season, three points, especially on days like that when you get tested, concede a goal, which is never good, to be able to bounce back and show our character was good for us.

"These are the ones that maybe go unnoticed during the season, but they're vitally important for us.

"And I think we'll probably look back at the end of the season and think that, whatever the outcome may be, this game was important for us."

Alexander-Arnold has enjoyed a rapid rise to the Liverpool starting XI and was quick to praise manager Klopp for his managerial style.

The German tactician was recently backed by Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer to one day take the helm in Bavaria, and on Alexander-Arnold's ringing endorsement, the club would do extremely well to prise him away from Merseyside.

He added: "It all comes from the manager. Everything we do comes from the manager.

"We try and go out there and play in the way he wants us to play, go and do the things that he wants us to do, so it's important for us to think the way he wants us to think as well."

Liverpool face a crunch clash against Spurs in the Premier League after the international break on March 31.
