Barcelona star and Manchester United target shuts down rumours of a transfer; confirms he will be at the club next season

Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has been linked heavily with an exit at the end of the season but moved to shut down that possibility in an interview.

Speaking to Telefoot, as reported by Sport, Barcelona’s center back Samuel Umtiti moved to quash all rumours about him leaving Barcelona at the end of the season by confirming that he will remain at the club when quizzed on the subject.

It was previously reported that Barcelona’s interest in Matthijs De Ligt could spell the end of Umtiti’s tenure at the club, with the French defender unhappy at having more competition for spots. It was also rumoured that he was interested in moving to either Manchester club at the end of the season in search of regular playing time.

For their part, Manchester United were also said to be interested in securing his services as they search for a top class center back addition in the summer.

However, it appears that whatever issues he may have harboured about his playing time at Barcelona may have been sorted out behind the scenes as the defender was crystal clear in his response when asked about his immediate future at the club.

Umtiti only recently signed a contract extension at the club until the 2022/23 season and it appears increasingly likely now that he will honour it - at least for the time being.
