Terry McPhillips surprised by Seasiders’ strong finish

Terry McPhillips admitted he did not see Blackpool’s last-gasp equaliser coming given how poorly his side had played against Plymouth.

The Seasiders had trailed 2-0 with just six minutes to go following goals from Freddie Ladapo and Ryan Edwards.

But they turned on the style in the closing stages, with Marc Bola’s late strike setting up a grandstand finish.

The unlikely comeback was complete when Curtis Tilt smashed home in stoppage time to keep Blackpool’s play-off hopes alive.

McPhillips said: “We couldn’t see the late goal coming after the way we had played up to that point.

“We’ve got great spirit in the camp and they are good lads, but we haven’t played well today.

“Plymouth have got some good players and fair play to them, but this is football. It’s a 95-minute game at times and we just kept on playing to the end.

“The last two goals were great goals and I thought the crowd really helped us with the atmosphere they created.

“We were desperate to get the win for them, but it wasn’t to be.

“Getting a goal back gave us belief and we pushed on well from there. The equaliser was a fantastic goal and I’m really pleased that the players kept on digging deep.

“We said we would have a go right to the end and we did that today.”

Plymouth boss Derek Adams said: “It was a good game from us today, we played well and started the game well.

“Overall I thought we were better than Blackpool. Their fans really helped them, they sucked the ball into the net today.

“There is not a lot you can do when they score an equaliser like that.

“I thought we were containing them very well and should have taken all three points.

“We’ve lost four points from winning positions in the last two games now, which is disappointing.”
