Jose Mourinho hints at desire to land Borussia Dortmund job

Jose Mourinho has outlined his 'admiration' for Borussia Dortmund and the way the club operates.

The Portuguese coach has been out of work since losing the Manchester United gig in December following a poor start to the Premier League campaign.

Where next for Mourinho? Five key things to know...

1. Mourinho was sacked by Man Utd after struggling to keep pace in the top four race.

2. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has since come in and rejuvenated United's season.

3. Mourinho has already expressed his desire to return to "top football" management by next season.

4. A number of elite clubs have been associated with Mourinho's name, including PSG and Inter Milan.

5. Mourinho's next destination is unclear, but he has now hinted at a possible move to the Bundesliga.

United struggled to cling to the coattails of the top four under Mourinho's guidance, but his successor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has since put the club right back in the race for Champions League qualification.

Should they secure a top four finish, then United could face Mourinho next season with the 56-year-old eager to return to "top football" management.

His name has been linked to a number of elite European clubs, but he could now be on his way to the Westfalenstadion after boasting of his 'trustful' relationship with club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.

He told Sport Bild: "I admire the work of BVB. Mr Watzke trusted me enough to ask for my opinion about a player and a coach I know well, I was honest, gave him my best possible rating.

"[Since then Watzke and Mourinho have] maintained respect for each other."

"I think the Bundesliga is really interesting"

The other perennial powerhouse in the German top-flight is Bayern Munich, but the Bavarians have struggled to replicate last season's form under the stewardship of Niko Kovac.

This has naturally led to speculation over his future, but Mourinho believes the Berlin-born tactician will now win the league and keep his job after the club comprehensively thrashed Dortmund 5-0 in the title race on Saturday.

He added: "I honestly assure you that I hope Niko will keep his job because he worked very hard to reach that level.

"It is hard to believe that Bayern will squander the title now. This [Bayern dropping points to let Dortmund back in] will not be easy, because Bayern has the experience to control their fate.

"The Bundesliga provides an exciting competition to follow, especially with the teams in the middle of the table. They're constantly improving and thereby creating a more level competition.

"Full stadiums, great organisation, good tactical approaches by many teams - I think the Bundesliga is really interesting."
