Reda Johnson struck the only goal as Eastleigh got their National League play-off bid back on track by beating Gateshead 1-0 at home.
The Spitfires had gone into the game on the back of three successive defeats but took the lead in the 15th minute when Johnson nodded Sam Matthews’ cross into the top corner.
Gateshead went close to levelling six minutes later, but Scott Barrow’s 20-yard free-kick ricocheted off the post.
Greg Olley and Mike Williamson nearly levelled for Gateshead – who fell to a fifth defeat in a six-match winless run – in the second half while Paul McCallum headed wide at the other end.
