Aguero: I never said that Messi didn't deserve the Ballon d'Or

Sergio Aguero claims he never denied that Barcelona captain Lionel Messi was deserving of being crowned Ballon d'Or winner.

After Manchester City successfully defended their Premier League title, the Argentine expressed his belief that the winner of the individual honour should be someone present in the Champions League final, which Barcelona missed out on after falling against Liverpool.

"I don't like to speak out and clarify things but when words have been attributed to me that I never said, I have to," Aguero tweeted.

"Just so it's clear, and I've always said this, but as long as Messi continues to play, he deserves the Ballon d'Or."
