Manchester United have already told the Spanish goalkeeper that they will not be meeting his £400,000-a-week contract demands meaning it is likely he will push to leave the club.
But the major problem is that PSG, who have been weighing up paying £60million for an immediate deal, are juggling to stay within Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules this summer
So PSG have hatched a plan that will see De Gea stay at Old Trafford for one more season before signing a pre-contract agreement with them in January.
De Gea would be rewarded with a massive signing on fee based on them saving on a transfer fee, as well as the wages he has failed to obtain from United deal maker Ed Woodward.
De Gea is regarded as one of the world’s best goalkeepers and would represent an upgrade on the veteran Gianluigi Buffon and Alphonse Areola.
He will be glad to have the summer off to recharge his batteries, however, having made a number of high-profile errors this season.
De Gea was at fault as United crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona following a 3-0 defeat at the Nou Camp in April.
He then dropped clangers in subsequent showdowns with Everton, Manchester City and Chelsea - all games United failed to win.

De Gea ended the 2018/19 campaign with fewer clean sheets - 7 - than Neil Etheridge, the goalkeeper of relegated Cardiff City.
United’s defensive issues were, though, as much to do with the lack of quality in front of him as down to his blunders.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing a major summer rebuild with Woodward allocating a sizeable transfer kitty his way.
Snaring a top-level centre-back is a priority, with Kalidou Koulibaly, Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld all in contention to arrive in Manchester.

It remains to be seen whether De Gea will climb down from his lofty demands and be prepared to put pen to paper on fresh terms.
But the fact United are facing going into another season without being able to challenge for serious honours will be on his mind.
PSG, meanwhile, are almost guaranteed to streak to another Ligue 1 title next year with Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani at their disposal.
And Parc des Princes chiefs will see De Gea as one of the missing pieces as they finally seek to convert domestic dominance into Champions League glory.
