Real Madrid are waiting to see what happens with Mbappe... and Neymar

Kylian Mbappe has broken the happy ecosystem that he appeared to be in with Paris Saint-Germain by asking for greater prominence. His statements came with the eyes of France on him at the Ligue 1 awards on Sunday night, which have since reverberated around the world.

What he made clear was that he either wanted to be the main man at PSG, or he would look for a club where he could undertake that role. From his statements, anything is possible. The knock-on effect is that the exit door at the Parc des Princes is now slightly ajar, either for Mbappe or Neymar, ahead of the summer transfer window.

If there's a club that needs to sign a star, a poster boy, it's Real Madrid. Those upstairs at the Santiago Bernabeu have always dreamt of bringing Neymar and, more recently, Mbappe to the Spanish capital. However, Florentino Perez has not wanted to enter a war with PSG nor the Emir of Qatar, the true owner of the Parisian side.

The tactic from Los Blancos' point of view has always been to wait for the right moment, whether that is PSG opting to sell or the player forcing their way out of the club. No one inside Madrid has fully discussed making a move for Mbappe or Neymar this summer, but it now seems like a possibility that either one of them could become available.

The supporters at the Bernabeu are clamouring for a galactico signing after a dismal campaign. It has been several summers since an iconic player arrived at Madrid, with Los Blancos' fans missing the excitement that it brought in the past. There are only two players in world football that could cause the supporters to dream again: Neymar and Mbappe. That option seemed to have died, for this summer at least, but the French forward's comments have woken everyone up in the Spanish capital.

Madrid are going to monitor the respective situations intently. After all, they do not want any confrontation with PSG nor any other side. They will respect their current clubs, but if one of the players becomes available, Madrid will make their move. For the moment, it is necessary to wait and see what will happen with the Mbappe saga, particularly as the Emir of Qatar will be travelling to Paris shortly.

Despite the dream of Neymar or Mbappe, Madrid will continue to plan for next season. They are still trying to sell several players in the hope of generating funds for signings. Eder Militao and Rodrygo Goes have already been confirmed, while Eden Hazard will be announced after the Europa League final. It is the goal of the club to recoup 200 million euros from sales which would enable them to spend 300m euros on new arrivals, though this amount clearly does not include the possible arrival of a superstar-type player such as Mbappe or Neymar. The availability of either of these two players would see an immediate change of strategy. The players would fully understand their arrival and their economic situation, too.
