Man Utd reveal 15 departures - who joins Herrera as Solskjaer begins major overhaul?

MANCHESTER UNITED have waved goodbye to 15 players - but who will be leaving the club this summer on the expiry of their contract?

Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia are the most high-profile departures as it was announced before the end of the season that they would not be staying beyond the summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had hoped that the Spaniard would stay put, but his entourage failed to agree a contract extension with the Manchester United board.

He is now expected to join Paris-Saint Germain on a free transfer although there has been no official confirmation as of yet.

Valencia has been at the club ten years since Sir Alex Ferguson signed him from Wigan Athletic.

He won two Premier League titles and seven other major trophies during his time there.

Other notable departures include James Wilson, the forgotten man who has spent time out on loan with Brighton, Derby, Sheffield United and Aberdeen.

He scored two goals on his first Premier League start under Ryan Giggs in a 3-1 win over Hull City.

Wales Under-21 captain Regan Poole has also been shown the exit door.

Full list of players released by Manchester United: Manchester United have released Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia, Regan Poole, Zak Dearnley, Tom Sang, Callum Whelan, Matty Willock, James Wilson, Matthew Olosunde, Tyrell Warren, DJ Buffonge, Callum Gribbin, Baars and Josh Bohui, James Thompson.

Upon his departure, Herrera publicly expressed his belief in Solskjaer, claiming he is the right man to take the club forward.

“I really believe in Ole,” Herrera said.

“I really believe in [his coaching staff] Michael [Carrick], Kieran [McKenna], Mick Phelan, Demps [Mark Dempsey], but I think there is a tough job ahead.

“That is my opinion as a fan and as someone who knows the club at the moment. These fans are the best but they [the management team] need time. They need time because this is not going to be from the first day. The club will need time, confidence and support. I am sure they will give it but the only thing I ask for them is time because this is not easy.

“There are examples - Liverpool are probably going to win the Champions League but I am leaving this club and they haven’t won one title in five years I have been here. They have done incredible work but the fans have given them time. That’s what this club needs at the moment.

“He’s the right person [for the job] so I am convinced it’s not going to take 30 years [to win the title again], that’s for sure. I am optimistic for the future but I ask the fans to give them time. Some of them might tell me to shut up because they have been waiting already.”
