TOTTENHAM transfer target Bruno Fernandes is ‘very close’ to signing for Spurs, and is set to reject a summer move to Manchester United or Liverpool, it’s been claimed.

Tottenham are reportedly “very close” to confirming the signing of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

He’s set to snub the opportunity to play for Manchester United, Liverpool or Manchester City to play for Mauricio Pochettino, according to Portuguese newspaper Record.

Spurs and United are the only two teams with meaningful bids at the moment.

But, Tottenham were always more likely to sign Bruno Fernandes, as they could offer the prestige of Champions League football next season.

Tottenham turned their attention to Fernandes after a failed attempt to sign Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.

Any deal for the Sporting player is likely to cost in excess of £60m.

Pochettino may want to sign Bruno Fernandes as a replacement for the want-away Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen revealed his desire to leave The Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium this week.

He said he’s reached a point in his career where it may be time for a new chapter.

“I feel that I am in a place in my career, where I might want to try something new,” said Eriksen.

“I have the wildest and deepest respect for everything that has happened in Tottenham. But I have also said that I would like to try something new.

“I hope there will be a clarification during the summer. That's the plan. It can happen anytime. Everyone wants it best if it happens as soon as possible, but in football things take time.

“It depends on Daniel Levy. And another club has to come. Or I have to sit down at the table and negotiate a new contract. If I have to go, then hopefully it will be a step up.

“Real Madrid? It's a step up. But it requires Real Madrid to call Tottenham and say they want Christian. And they have not done so yet, as far as I know.”

Sporting Lisbon are prepared to sell Bruno Fernandes, but only for the right valuation.

The Portuguese star scored 28 goals in all competitions last season, and was subsequently called up to Portugal’s Nations League squad.
