AC Milan director Maldini opens negotiations over Real Madrid trio

Paolo Maldini, the new technical director at AC Milan, returned to Italy with a sense of optimism after meeting with Real Madrid in the last few days.

Maldini travelled to Madrid with Zvonimir Boban, the Rossoneri's new chief football officer, as they met with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and club director Jose Angel Sanchez.

"The trip has gone well," Maldini told Sky Sport Italia at Milan Linate Airport.

"We'll always bring good news for [the new head coach, Marco] Giampaolo, we are optimistic about this Milan."

Milan finished fifth in Serie A last season and, as they look to make amends and secure Champions League football moving forward, they are interested in signing a trio of players who are not in Zinedine Zidane's plans.

The player they most desire is Dani Ceballos, who is showcasing his ability at the European Under-21 Championship in Italy at the moment, along with Borja Mayoral, another Spain Under-21 international, and Martin Odegaard, according to Italian media outlets.

Mayoral spent last season on loan at Levante and, speaking with EFE in Bologna, he is of the assumption that he will leave Real Madrid. He did not close the door to potentially moving away from Spain, but LaLiga Santander would be his preference.

"I'm open to all kinds of clubs," Mayoral told EFE.

"I have already experienced Germany [at Wolfsburg] and I liked it.

"Yes, it is true that I like Spain very much because I have already played there, I know LaLiga Santander and the language. I would prefer [to keep playing in] Spain."
