Atletico Madrid forward Alvaro Morata was beaming with delight having sealed a permanent deal that keeps him in the capital in Spain, calling it the best thing that has happened.
After a nightmare season at Chelsea, he sees Diego Simeone as having thrown him a lifeline to get his career back on track.
"Atletico [Madrid] are the best thing that could have happened to me," said Morata in an interview with EFE.
"It would mean so much to me to win titles with Atleti, even more than anything I've won in the past because this is different."
When quizzed about the state of the current Atletico team, that has seen a lot of comings and goings already, he was philosophical and recognised this is just what happens in football.
"Big players have left, especially big characters," said the Spaniard.
"I wish they could still be here, but everyone has their own circumstances and has their own trajectory."
One significant move was a certain Antoine Griezmann and Morata did not hold back on praise for the Frenchman.
"He is a top top player," Morata continued. "I don't need to tell you how big he is.
"He's been one of the best players that Atleti have had in recent times."
