Unai Emery calls for “patience” as Arsenal aim to step up transfer activity

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has urged for "patience" in the transfer window as the club looks to recruit one or two additional signings.

The Gunners have so far struggled to bring in heavy reinforcements this summer, with teenage striker Gabriel Martinelli the club's only acquisition to date.

Will Arsenal sign? Five things to know…

· Emery has made no secret about his desire to bolster his ranks this summer.

· Arsenal have seen overtures for both Wilfried Zaha and Kieran Tierney pushed back.

· Emery has conceded he wants "to sign one, two, three or four players" this window.

· However, the club have only signed Martinelli for £6m from Ituano so far.

· The Spaniard has now called for "patience" as he looks to complete business in the coming weeks.

There have been rumours that Emery has only been provided a transfer kitty in the region of £45m, while the Gunners have already seen advances for Wilfried Zaha and Kieran Tierney rejected by both Crystal Palace and Celtic respectively.

Despite this, Arsenal are expected to make a number of signings before the deadline on August 8, and Emery has now called for calm as he reveals the club are simply "waiting" for progress to be made on one or two potential acquisitions.

"Really I am with patience because we want to choose the best solution," he said. "Some players are very expensive and we are waiting for this possibility.

"We don't want now to go to the second line of players. We are waiting. We have very good players. We have very good young players. We are aware also that we need to improve some players in this squad.

"I want to sign one, two, three or four players only if we can be sure they are coming to improve our team."

Emery: Nketiah has a chance with us

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on deals for both William Saliba from Saint-Etienne and Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos, with the latter likely to be a loan move, but Emery may very well find better solutions from within rather than externally.

Eddie Nketiah has been the star of the show for Arsenal in pre-season, with his 89th minute winner against Bayern Munich preceding a clinically dispatched brace during the 3-1 victory over Fiorentina - and Emery has hinted at further first team opportunities for the 20-year-old

"Nketiah was playing very well last year," Emery said.

"In December, we were thinking of loaning or not loaning the player to Germany and we decided he should stay with us to train and progress with us.

"We started this pre-season with the same idea as we finished last year. He'll stay with us and my idea is that if you progress like we are seeing from you, you can have a chance with us."
