Raheem Sterling opened the scoring in the first-half with Joel Matip heading in Liverpool's equaliser 13 minutes from time.

The Blues would go on to win the Community Shield in a penalty shootout.

"An incredible final. We're exhausted," Pep Guardiola said after the full-time whistle. "They [Liverpool] had chances to win and we had chances to win too - a good test for both teams. It's nice to play to realise what we're going to face this season.

"We won, last season we won one more point than them. Congratulations to the guys - the first title of the season is ours."
