LIVERPOOL fans hit out at UEFA after Lionel Messi won their Goal of the Season award over Divock Origi.

Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-3 on aggregate on their way to Champions League glory last season in a remarkable comeback victory.

The highlight of the 3-0 first leg win for the Catalan giants was Lionel Messi’s inch-perfect free kick, which was named as the goal of the year by the governing body.

Reds fans have pointed to their crucial goal in the second-leg that saw them progress, in which Trent Alexander-Arnold’s quick thinking set up Origi from a corner.

Several supporters have suggested that because the Belgian’s goal was more important than Messi’s overall, that it should’ve earned the tag of best goal.

One fan said: “Gotta be corner taken quickly origi.”

“The goal that meant nothing in the end,” said another.

A third added: “what did that goal mean though? surely TAA corner again Barca???? counted for something.”

“In all honesty the technique, vision and pure relevance of TTA's assist for Origi's winner v Barca is far superior to that of a free kick which Messi practices over and over again daily,” claimed a fourth.

Liverpool take on Norwich in the opening game of the new Premier League season on Friday, with Jurgen Klopp excited to get the new campaign started, despite their lack of transfer business.

He said: “We were looking for one or two things and it didn’t work out but there’s no panic about that.

“If we don’t find the right one, we don’t do it.

“Norwich deserve all our respect because how they got promotion last season was exceptional. They are a special team.”

Klopp has also given his thoughts on the possible title battle with Manchester City, and mentioned a conversation that he had with Pep Guardiola after Liverpool won the Champions League last season.

“We promised each other that we will kick each other’s butts again next season!”

City take on West Ham on Saturday, with Reds fans hoping that they will have a three-point lead on their rivals before that fixture kicks-off.
