Rotherham’s four-midable display delights Paul Warne

Paul Warne was impressed with his Rotherham side as they eased through to the second round of the Carabao Cup with a 4-0 win at League One rivals Shrewsbury.
The Millers led 2-0 as early as the third minute through goals from Matt Crooks and Kyle Vassell, before Freddie Ladapo increased the advantage just before the break.
Skipper Richard Wood then added a late fourth to complete a good night’s work for the Yorkshire club at the Montgomery Waters Meadow.
Boss Warne said: “I think all our good play really came from our front three pressing and the midfield obviously backed them up.
“We won the ball up high and, for a nice change, took all our chances that our play deserved.
“To keep a clean sheet away from home as well is good, so we’re pretty pleased.”
Warne was particularly pleased with striker Vassell and right-back Matt Olosunde.
“I thought Vass and possibly Matt were our best performers,” he added.
“Vass was excellent. He’s really stepped up over the summer, came back in really good shape, really wants to be in the team and obviously his performances justified his starting place and he’s keeping some good players out.”
Shrewsbury manager Sam Ricketts made eight changes to the side beaten at MK Dons last weekend.
He was impressed with the performance of 17-year-old midfielder James Rowland, but chances were hard to come by.
“It was tough,” said Ricketts. “The first five minutes were probably the worst five minutes of a game I’ve seen really to be fair. That was down to a little bit of everything really.
“You have to take the game into a huge context and I want to win the game, but at the same time we did make a lot of changes.
“We went in with a very, very young midfield partnership. I thought young Rowlo was excellent, but he’s 17-years-old.
“As a club where we are, we have to give players like that a chance and tonight was an opportunity for him.”
