Hall-Johnson a doubt as Northampton host managerless Macclesfield

Northampton have doubts over defender Reece Hall-Johnson as they prepare to welcome managerless Macclesfield to the PTS Academy Stadium.

Manager Keith Curle revealed the right-back, who joined the Cobblers over the summer after leaving Grimsby, has picked up an unspecified knock in training and may miss the Sky Bet League Two clash on Saturday.

Midfielder Alan McCormack is working his way back from a hamstring injury he sustained against Walsall on the opening day of the season but is unlikely to be risked.

Goalkeeper Steve Arnold is also sidelined with the hamstring problem he picked up at Port Vale last weekend, with David Cornell regaining his place in goal.

Macclesfield’s preparations were hit by the news boss Sol Campbell has left his role by mutual consent after eight months in charge.

The Silkmen made the announcement on Thursday, less than 48 hours after knocking Blackpool out of the Carabao Cup on penalties.

Connor Kirby made his debut in that match and will be looking to retain his place in midfield while fellow new arrival, goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook, is still waiting to make his first appearance after joining from Shrewsbury.

Macclesfield have won one and lost one in the league so far this season.
