MK Dons boss Paul Tisdale upbeat despite defeat

Paul Tisdale insists he has reasons aplenty to be cheerful despite watching MK Dons fall to a last-gasp 3-2 defeat at Wycombe.
David Wheeler’s stoppage-time winner proved a dagger through the hearts of the Dons, who had twice come from behind at Adams Park.
Joe Jacobson’s penalty was cancelled out by Jordan Bowery while Jordan Houghton scored from the penalty spot for the Dons after Fred Onyedinma had put the hosts back ahead before the break.
“We’re really disappointed after a great game of football to come away with nothing,” said Tisdale.
“It’s about scoring goals and scoring more than the opposition.
“We had more than our fair share of chances. They’ve scored three and we haven’t. We came for a game of football and that’s what we got. We didn’t want to come here and defend.
“There were large parts of our game and our desire to play I was really proud of. But there’s one or two bits we’ve got to be better at.
“They had the upper hand early on and forced us into having to guts it out. I think generally we had the right frame of mind.
“They got their reward for their last 20 minutes of offensive play.
“We had our chances, but I’m really optimistic about what sort of team we can be after that performance.”
Jacobson’s penalty put Wycombe ahead after a foul on Paul Smyth before Bowery fired into the bottom corner to level up.
Onyedinma rifled home a sweet strike to put Wycombe back ahead but Jacobson’s foul on Kieran Agard allowed Houghton to level up for a second time.
But the chance of a point went begging as Wheeler tucked home – though the Dons were not without chances after Conor McGrandles missed a first-half penalty.
“We’re really pleased with that result,” said Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth. “We carried on from where we left off on Tuesday.
“We were a real threat in the first half an hour. MK score a great goal and you have to rebuild.
“We tried to combat it, but sometimes we couldn’t handle it. They’re a good side with a good manager.
“They’ve got some good players who are going to cause a lot of problems this season. The second half belonged to them for 20 or 25 minutes.
“Their boy [McGrandles] missed the penalty and I think Ryan Allsop learned from midweek with the keeper dancing on his line – he might have put him off because he put it over the bar.
“We went a little bit more direct. The script was written for David Wheeler to score against his old club and it was a fantastic finish.”
