Darren Moore delighted to record first win as Doncaster boss

Darren Moore felt persistence paid off as Doncaster secured the first victory of his tenure with a 3-2 triumph over Fleetwood.

A Wes Burns own goal in stoppage-time handed Rovers all three points. Goals from Cameron John and James Coppinger had seen Doncaster roar back after Conor McAleny gave Fleetwood the lead, while substitute Paddy Madden levelled the score early in the second half.

After being held to draws in their opening two games, Moore was delighted to finally secure the triumph.

“I’m so pleased and happy for everyone at the club to get the win,” he said. “You want to get off the mark as early as you can.

“I look back at the two games before this and thought we may have been worthy of a win in those.

“You’ve still got to get over the line and I was very pleased to get the win.

“You especially want to do it in front of your own fans and to do it on the second outing here was pleasing and rewarding.

“We knew we had to be at our best, certainly out of possession. There was never a moment where we felt we could switch off.

“Credit to the boys for the way we stayed in the game.

“I thought it was no more than what we deserved after the fighting spirit and the endeavour we showed.”

Fleetwood boss Joey Barton was left to bemoan errors which cost his side points as he felt all three goals were preventable.

“I’m gutted for the players because they’re created loads of opportunities,” he said.

“It’s little bits of sloppiness on our part and luck on theirs. We’ve hit the inside the post a couple of times.

“They’ve taken their chances – that’s the game. It was three goals here that we feel we could have done better from.

“That’s the kind of thing that puts grey hair on a football manager’s head.

“Our lads have a go every week so it’s very rare I feel this way after a game.

“We dust ourselves down and go and beat Wycombe at home on Tuesday night.”

Fleetwood had won their first two league matches prior to the defeat at Doncaster and Barton was bitterly disappointed to lose their perfect record.

“I don’t think we’re a million miles away,” Barton added. “It’s just moments of sloppiness that have cost us.

“We had a good opportunity to go three out of three and two away wins against sides that were in and around the top six last season.

“All in all, if you’d offered us six points from the first three games, I’d have probably taken it but we’re disappointed that we don’t have at least seven – possibly nine.”
