Morecambe manager Jim Bentley wants to move on after stalemate

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley did not hold back after the goalless draw with Cheltenham at the Globe Arena.

After seeing his side and Cheltenham struggle to create chances in a defence-dominated game, the Shrimps boss said: “I think that has to be in the top three of worst games I have ever been involved in.

“There was no lack of endeavour but I think it was one of the worst performances I have ever seen. It is one of those you put in the bin and move on to be honest it was that bad.

“It was a dour game and poor performance from both sides and there wasn’t much to talk about at the end of the day.

’’We had a couple of half chances and they were the same really so I don’t think any side deserved to win it.

“It was lacking in something all the way through and I thought the only was anyone would score was from a mistake or a set place goal.

“You have to look for positives though and at the end of the day we got our first clean sheet of the season and we didn’t lose. This time last year we played superbly against Oldham and lost so sometimes you have to take the point and move on.”

Robins’ manager Michael Duff said he was happy with his side’s point considering their poor away form in recent times.

He said: “A point is more than we have been getting away from home so that was a plus.

“I thought we were the team that looked the more likely to take the points. We got into some really good areas but we just needed a bit more quality in the final 20 yards of the pitch to make their keeper work.

“We had one great chance in the first half but the ball just wouldn’t sit for George Reilly.

“The fact they had to change their shape to cope with us was a plus for us but although we shaded the match it probably was a 0-0 game.’’
