Reports stemming from Italy today suggest that AS Roma are readying a new offer for out-of-favour Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren.

The future of Reds' stopper Lovren has been the subject of intense speculation of late.

On the back of a difficult campaign last time out, during which the Croatian managed just 11 Premier League starts, reports have been rife that Liverpool would be open to allowing Lovren to move on before the close of the European transfer window next week.

All of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip currently sit ahead of the 30-year-old in the defensive pecking order at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp said to have full faith in the talents of teenage prodigy Ki-Jana Hoever:

Roma return
To this point, meanwhile, the outfit most persistently-touted as a potential destination for Lovren have been AS Roma.

The Serie A giants are known to be on the lookout for reinforcements at centre-half, with Giallorossi boss Paulo Fonseca said to be an admirer of the struggling Liverpool man.

Despite a deal having previously been widely-expected to come to fruition, though, Liverpool pulled the plug on negotiations two weeks ago, after Roma attempted to change the terms of the potential deal to a loan, rather than an outright purchase:

As per a report from Italian outlet the Corriere dello Sport this evening, though, Roma are now ready to return for Lovren.

After being frustrated in their chase of Juventus' Daniele Rugani, the capital giants are said to have switched their attentions back to Anfield.

It is even claimed that a new proposal for Lovren is imminent.

However, the Roma board are reportedly still pushing for a loan with option to buy. Liverpool, on the other hand, appear determined to include an obligation to buy.

As such, the possibility of a transfer actually coming to fruition remains very much up in the air.
