Liverpool lost a 3-0 lead before Mohamed Salah rescued his side to seal the three points against RB Salzburg.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp conceded his side lost their way in second half as RB Salzburg mounted a stunning fightback before ultimately losing 4-3 to the Champions League holders.

Goals from Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah gave a commanding lead at Anfield.

But Hwang Hee-chan gave the away side home then in the second half Takumi Minamino volleyed in and substitute Erling Braut Haaland tapped in an equaliser.

However, just as it looked like Liverpool had blown the match, Salah got their fourth of the night when he anticipated a Roberto Firmino's header and lashed the ball home.

The result handed Liverpool their first points of the competition and Klopp admitted his players lost control of the match.

“It's better to learn the lessons during the game than talk about it after it,” Klopp said.

"I thought we were outstanding in the first 30 minutes, then the Salzburg system changed and we lost the ball so that caused us problems. We lost control of the game.

“The momentum changed and it was really difficult to get a foot in the game. We had to wait until they had scored the third goal, then we were able to strike back.

“I'm not angry - I saw us play really well and try hard to get back into the game and score a really nice goal. You don't need to score six or seven goals.

“Salzburg are a good side but the first 30 minutes we made it really difficult for them and played outstanding.
