Pep Guardiola provides thoughts on title race after Wolves defeat

Man City 0-Wolves 2

Manchester City went head-to-head with Wolves in one of four Premier League games taking place on Sunday.

Wolves had not been in great form prior to facing City and Nuno Santo’s side began the day in 15th place.

Wolves had also played Besiktas on Thursday evening in the Europa League, giving them two fewer days than City to prepare for the game.

Despite this, Nuno Santo’s side would come away from the Etihad with a 2-0 victory.

Ex Middlesbrough man Adama Traore grabbed both of Wolves’ goals vs Man City.

On the Wolves clash, Pep Guardiola had this to say:

“We started quite well, but after we conceded two situations in our build-up, where it’s impossible to defend, we got a little bit nervous.

“We controlled them better in the second half but at the end, with us attacking and people up front, we lost balls in positions where it’s so difficult and they were clinical.

“Before that we hit the post and we had actions, but the way we played was not good. It was not a good day, we didn’t play good.

“It sometimes happens. We spoke about this: ‘Come on guys, a lot of games to play, we did it and we’re going to do it again’.

“We lost to a good team that were really well-organised, good physicality, strong in the air and so fast on the counter-attack. We knew it.” As quoted by the Mirror.

Pep on being eight points behind Liverpool

The loss to Wolves meant that Manchester City are now eight points behind league leaders Liverpool.

It would be Liverpool who came closest to challenging City for the title last seaosn, finishing one point behind.

But with an eight-point gap already opened up, perhaps it will be Jurgen Klopp’s side who come out on top this time around.

On being eight points behind Liverpool in the title race, Guardiola had this to say:

“It’s a lot of points. They haven’t dropped any points, for many circumstances. But it’s better for us not to think that one team is eight points ahead.

“It was a bad day. But sometimes it happens.” As quoted by the Mirror.

Although, while eight points is a lot to make up, it is only October and Liverpool were at one point during last season, seven points ahead of Man City in the league yet they still didn’t win the PL.
