Manchester United have been told that they will need to cough up £10million for veteran Juventus hitman Mario Mandzukic.

Manchester United will have to spend £10million if they want to sign Mario Mandzukic from Juventus in the January transfer window but the player has reached a verbal agreement with the Red Devils.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Croatian star Mandzukic to beef up his misfiring front line.

He failed with a summer move for the former Bayern Munich star who will be 34 next May but is understood to have now reached a verbal agreement.

Juve want to offload Mandzukic who has has been told that he won’t be featuring in Maurizio Sarri’s plans for the season.

He has rejected a lucrative move to Qatar and has been offered the chance to play in the MLS with LAFC but still feels that he can play at the highest level in Europe.

Solskjaer has watched his side struggle for goals this season after they failed to replace Belgium international Romelu Lukaku when he moved to Inter Milan.

And United haven’t scored more than one goal in a game since hammering Chelsea 4-0 on the opening weekend of the season.

They haven’t been helped by Marcus Rashford struggling up front on his own while Anthony Martial has struggled with injury problems.

Last month Solskjaer admitted his side need to sign a striker as they are short in attack.

He explained: “There were strikers but they weren’t the ones we wanted. If we had the right one, we would have.

“It was time for Romelu to go. He knows that. He didn’t want to be here.

“What is the point in having players that don’t want to be here?

“And it’s no point getting players in that you’re not 100 per cent sure about.

“When you get players in you need the right ones that are going to stay here for a longer period and that’s the long-term thinking we have to show.

“I cannot think: ‘I need a player because this is my reputation.’ No, it’s the club.”

United return to action after the international break against Liverpool next Sunday at Old Trafford.
