Ryan Lowe hails four-star Plymouth

Plymouth boss Ryan Lowe was full of praise for his team as they swept to a 4-0 home win over Leyton Orient in League Two.

Goals by in-form Joel Grant, striker partner Zak Rudden and wing-back Callum McFadzean put Argyle in the driving seat before a stoppage-time first-half own goal off the back of Joe Widdowson made it 4-0.

Substitute Louis Dennis struck a post for the Os late on, who appealed for handball leading up to Argyle’s opener.

Lowe said: “Four goals, clean sheet, some terrific football and I thought the pressing of our lads was different class.

“I say we’ll become a good team, then a very good team and then a brilliant team because you have to, to get where you want.

“We are becoming a good team and that’s whether it’s the passing, defending, work rate, whatever it is… it’s all combined.

“I think our performance especially first half was relentless.

“We always knew it was going to be tough second half, they matched us up 3-5-2 man for man, but we created plenty more chances and could have possibly had a couple of more goals in.

“I am just pleased with another three points.

“It’s fantastic getting four goals but most importantly I am most pleased about those three points.

“I have said to the boys they have got to keep performing to stay in the team and they all know that.

“I am buzzing for all the lads who got goals. That’s what you want especially for the front two, Joel’s in form and Zak’s got his first League goal.

“And I told Faz he was due one, and that’s why he came over to us to celebrate.

“Now we go to Exeter and all form goes out the window because it’s a derby so we won’t be getting too high about this.”

Os boss – and former Pilgrim – Carl Fletcher said: “It is a shocker from the referee, the handball. I was a little bit disappointed the linesman or the referee didn’t see it.

“These things happen, they change games. We need to be better with certain things in the first half. It was a little disappointing.

“The lads kept digging in, they were grafting away all night.

“It would have been very easy to drop their heads and sulk about it to a degree but the lads kept giving everything they had.

“Since we have come in, we have had about three hours on the training pitch and there is a lot of work we need to do.

“It was important in the second half we showed a bit of character and put in a solid performance, not concede any goals and put up a fight.

“Every day since I have been here has been a learning day. What things are good, what things we need to improve on.

“We have had a tough couple of away games, we will be working hard to improve on certain things and hopefully get it right for Saturday.”
