Brannagan and Cadden doubts for Oxford ahead of Sunderland clash

Oxford will await news on injuries to Cameron Brannagan and Chris Cadden ahead of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup clash with Sunderland.

Full-back Cadden is the more likely to be available but could sit out the last-16 clash to allow him to recover from a hamstring injury suffered in Saturday’s win over Rochdale.

Brannagan was also forced off in that game and was sent for a scan on a knee injury with the club fearing a longer-term absence.

Matty Taylor is back from suspension and Anthony Forde could feature after returning from injury as an unused substitute at the weekend.

Sunderland will make an enforced change in goal, with Jon McLaughlin replacing Lee Burge.

Burge suffered a hip flexor injury while taking a goal kick against Shrewsbury and, while the club are hopeful the injury is not serious, assistant manager Steve Parkin said they would “wait a couple of days” before deciding whether to send him for a scan.

McLaughlin took over at half-time against the Shrews and will again deputise, while recently installed manager Phil Parkinson may use the tie as an opportunity to run the rule over some of his fringe players.

Midfielder Lynden Gooch and striker Charlie Wyke both remain sidelined by ankle injuries.
