Man City to battle Barca for Bentancur

Manchester City look set to attempt to derail Barcelona's attempts to sign Rodrigo Bentancur, claims Don Balon.

The Blaugrana have been long linked with a move for the 22-year-old, who is unhappy with his minutes at Juventus.

But City could instead foil a move to La Liga by tempting him to the Premier League instead.

Man Utd make Rice priority

Manchester United have made West Ham’s Declan Rice their top target for next summer, but he may be brought to the club as soon as January.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move away from the London Stadium since establishing himself in the West Ham first team two seasons ago, and he has now been installed at the top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer shortlist.

United failed to add a midfielder in the summer transfer window, meaning there was no replacement for Ander Herrera or Marouane Fellaini.

Robinson assures Motherwell focus amid Hearts links

Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson says that he is focused on affairs at Fir Park as speculation links him to the vacant job at Hearts, per Sky Sports.

The latter sacked Craig Levin this week but Robinson says he is not currently circling a move to replace him.

"Listen, I solely concentrate on Motherwell," he stated. "We have a big game on Saturday and that's my sole focus."

Conte not bothered by Martinez-Barca links

Antonio Conte says he isn't unduly concerned with speculation linking Barcelona with a move for Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentine has struck up a fine partnership with Romelu Lukaku this season, and has been touted as a possible replacement for Luis Suarez at Camp Nou.

Pirlo: I almost joined Roma

Andrea Pirlo has revealed he almost joined Roma ahead of Juventus, when he left former club AC Milan in 2011.

"Before going to Juventus I was close to Roma," he said on Radio Radio. "There were contacts."

The legendary midfielder instead went on to make more than 160 appearances in black and white, winning four consecutive Serie A titles.

Arsenal's Saliba swoop riles Saint-Etienne boss

Arsenal's signing of teenage French defender William Saliba over the summer has left new Saint-Etienne manager Claude Puel frustrated at his club's transfer policy.

Puel said he didn't think the decision to sell the man he sees as his best player was the right one, despite the Gunners paying a healthy fee.

Melbourne Victory have signed former Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Brendan White as an injury replacement player for Matthew Acton.

Gonzalez Pirez unsure on Atlanta future

Leandro Gonzalez Pirez has admitted that he remains in the dark over his future with Atlanta United, per The Athletic.

The current MLS Cup holders saw their season falter at the penultimate holder as they lost the Eastern Conference final to Toronto this week, and the centre-back says he is yet to discover if he will remain with them in Georgia.

“I don’t know because the club hasn’t gotten in touch with me" he stated. “They have my phone number. Of course I want to stay. I’m happy here."

Minnesota make front of house changes

Minnesota United will reportedly make key front of house changes ahead of the new campaign, according to The Athletic.

The MLS club will hand head coach Adrian Heath increased influence over roster calls, while Manny Lagos will continue on to be involved elsewhere in the youth system.

The Loons made it to the final of the U.S. Open Cup and made the play-offs for the first time this season.

Philadelphia Union won't sell youth

Philadelphia Union sporting director Ernst Tanner has stated that the time is not right for them to sell any of their highly-rated youth players abroad, per MLS.

The club have produced a number of fine talents in recent years with Brenden Aaronson having earned a USMNT call-up this year.

But Tanner says they will not rush to offload them despite interest from home and abroad.

Roma ready €15m Smalling bid

Roma are preparing a €15 million (£13m/$17m) bid for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling, according to the Guardian.

The Serie A side are ready to make the loan move permanent for the England international following an impressive start to life in Italy.

They will offer Smalling a five-year contract to make the switch to the Giallorossi, who currently sit fourth in Italy's top flight.

Hodgson in talks over new Palace deal

Roy Hodgson has revealed he is in talks with Crystal Palace over extending his stay with the Premier League club.

His current deal expires in 2020 although it appears he is closing in on a new contract following his side's impressive start to the 2019-20 campaign.

Hodgson told reporters: "Steve [Palace chairman Parish] and I talk all the time. Sometimes these things get mooted so I suppose it's fair to say yes we're in talks [over a new deal] but I can't give you anything more than that."

Former Man Utd full-back heads to MLS

Former Manchester United left-back Alexander Buttner has completed a move to New England Revolution.

The 30-year-old joins the MLS side from Vitesse, with the Dutchhman having previously spent two years at Old Trafford from 2012 to 2014.

Revolution head coach Bruce Arena told the club's official website of the deal: "Alexander brings experience at the game's most competitive levels, and his skill and pedigree will make him an important asset for the club on and off the field."

Bookies slash odds on ex-United man succeeding Emery

Former Manchester United and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is one of the favourites to become the next Arsenal manager, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper states that the odds on Mourinho succeeding Unai Emery have been slashed to just 4/1 in the last few days.
