Unai Emery convinced Arsenal’s players carried out his “gameplan” correctly vs Leicester

Unai Emery has defended Arsenal’s gameplan against Leicester City, despite seeing his side suffer a chastening 2-0 defeat to their top-four rivals.

The Foxes stretched their winning streak in the Premier League to four matches with Jamie Vardy and James Maddison on the scoresheet in a comfortable victory.

It was yet another disappointing result for the Gunners who have now failed to win any of their last five matches in all competitions.

In the league, it’s two points collected from the last 12 available, a meagre run that has seen them drop to sixth place in the table and eight points off the top-four places.

Consequently, Emery’s position has come under severe pressure with supporters calling for his dismissal, although any potential change would represent a risky strategy for the north Londoners.

However, Emery feels his side did everything he asked of them and has defended the manner in which they approached the game at the King Power Stadium.

“We will be disappointed with the result but with the player’s attitude, I think they did the gameplan. We were in the match in the first half and in the second half we started taking chances, controlling the game like we wanted,” he told reporters.

“They also created chances and when they scored the first goal is maybe the moment we lost the possibility to do something in the match.”

Emery is convinced Arsenal need to find form at home to get their campaign back on track and believes Leicester’s confidence on their own patch helped turn the game in Brendan Rodgers’ favour.

“The attitude was good, the players did the gameplan that we prepared. Leicester are in a good moment, they are at home and feel strong. We had our chances and our moments to reduce their (threat) in a lot of moments but they also scored and won.

“We now have distance in the table from them but we have time to recover our confidence, the points and to have success for us.

“We lost here because they (Leicester) are in a good moment playing at home and they feel strong here. But with our gameplan, we worked as we prepared but the difference was they scored the first goal and we lost that opportunity.”
