Glyn Hodges rues unforced errors in AFC Wimbledon’s defeat to Blackpool

AFC Wimbledon boss Glyn Hodges was left ruing a self-inflicted downfall as Armand Gnanduillet’s second-half double consigned the Dons to a 2-0 loss at Blackpool.

Good work from Nathan Delfouneso saw Gnanduillet fire home just after the break before sealing the win with a neat finish from Liam Feeney’s cross.

But the striker’s double reflected lapses in concentration for the Dons – a setback leaving Hodges pondering how to turn it around.

“I’m obviously disappointed and probably angry thinking we sort of caused our own downfall with errors that are unforced errors, which crept in which haven’t been there,” he said.

“It’s a bit disappointing but we were OK at times. You’re shaking your head thinking it’s 2-0 and when you’re picking the bones out of it they were just errors that shouldn’t have crept in.

“Credit to them, they were ruthless, they punished us in those times, but even at 1-0 I thought we’ll get a goal here. It’s just stopping those unforced errors.

“I want to come to places like this and have a go. We’re not going to be tentative, we’re going to be on the front foot and we want to try and win.

“We’ve got to be more consistent, especially away from home we need to try and pick up some points, but we’re going to have a go whatever.”

Sullay Kaikai hit the crossbar early on and Delfouneso hooked the rebound over as the hosts dominated early on.

The Dons threatened in patches with Jak Alnwick punching Max Sanders’ curling free-kick to safety as the hosts secured back-to-back league wins.

Blackpool boss Simon Grayson said: “It was an important win for us. We knew that it was going to be a tough day because of the results that they’ve had recently.

“We knew that they’d be hard working, they’d get bodies behind the ball and make it difficult for us and we had to make sure that we were defensively sound as well.

“First half I thought we were OK and didn’t look in too many problems.

“Offensively we just needed a little bit more intensity to the play, pass it a little bit quicker, make one or two better decisions when we get into the final third and we carried that out in the second half.

“I thought Armand was a real handful and I’m not just talking about his goals, the last few weeks he’s been very good and very difficult to play against.”
