Southend will have defender Jason Demetriou available again following international duty for the Sky Bet League One match against Oxford.
Right-back Demetriou played for Cyprus in the 2-1 defeat against Scotland in Nicosia, but has been carrying a knee problem so will be assessed.
Shrimpers boss Sol Campbell does not expect forward Stephen Humphrys, top scorer with five goals, to be back in action from a thigh problem until early December.
Centre-back Harry Lennon will not be considered due to club disciplinary reasons, while Joe Shaughnessy (knee), Sam Mantom (hamstring), John White (broken arm), Luke Hyam (hamstring) and Charlie Kelman (ankle) all remain sidelined.
Oxford boss Karl Robinson will be hoping his squad return to action refreshed from their own break in action.
The U’s, unbeaten across 14 games in all competitions, should have both full-backs Chris Cadden (hamstring) and Josh Ruffels (dead leg) available again following their injury lay-offs.
Forward Jamie Mackie misses out through suspension after collecting a fifth caution in the last league match.
Cameron Brannagan (knee) and on-loan Liverpool midfielder Ben Woodburn (broken foot) continue their recovery.
