Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson is boosted by the return of three players for the visit of Coventry.
Jordan Willis, Joel Lynch and George Dobson are available for selection after missing Tuesday’s FA Cup defeat at Gillingham.
Forward Marc McNulty (hamstring) is a doubt to face the Sky Blues while Charlie Wyke and Lynden Gooch remain sidelined.
Wyke appeared close to a comeback after joining in training earlier this week but needs more time to recover from an ankle injury.
Coventry manager Mark Robins is without the services of forward Max Biamou for the trip to the Stadium of Light.
Biamou will serve the final game of a three-match ban following his red card against Accrington at the start of the month.
Fellow forward Matt Godden remains sidelined but Jordy Hiwula could be fit after missing the last five matches with an ankle injury.
Midfielder Jamie Allen will be hoping to be involved after playing 45 minutes for the Under-23s last Friday before being an unused substitute at home to Rochdale the following day.
