Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be sacked after Manchester United only managed a draw against Sheffield United

Manchester United are currently languishing well behind the Champions League spots after drawing 3-3 with high-flying Sheffield United .

That result means they currently sit in ninth in the Premier League and are still behind the likes of Wolves , Sheffield United and Burnley .

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has long been the subject of rumours over his long-term future at Old Trafford but the club’s poor points tally, coupled with the availability of some high profile managers, means Ed Woodward may opt to part ways with the Norwegian.

With this in mind, Starsport takes a look at who the club might choose to replace Solskjaer.

Mauricio Pochettino

The recently sacked Tottenham boss has long been a target of United and now that he is available the club may have to abandon their plans to back Solskjaer to ensure they do not miss out on Pochettino.

Heavily linked with the vacant Bayern Munich job, Pochettino has a greater managerial pedigree than Solskjaer after a highly successful five and a half years at Spurs.

Although that has now ended on a sour note, the Argentinian is still considered one of the best managers in the world and is expected to turn up at a top club very soon. Whether that is Manchester United remains to be seen.

Massimiliano Allegri

Out-of-work Allegri will likely be high on a list of potential replacements if Solskjaer is let go. The Italian was a serial winner at Juventus and that side’s trademark fluidity in attack could see the 52-year-old get the best out of the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

The only mark against Allegri is the fact that he is yet to manage outside of Italy but his record with Juventus certainly makes him a top contender for any major managerial vacancy.

Brendan Rodgers

Although he previously managed fierce rivals Liverpool , current Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers would be a surprise candidate to replace Solskjaer.

However, his success with Celtic and now the Foxes means the Northern Irishman is one of the most sought-after managers in Europe.

Despite his Leicester side currently sitting above United, Rodgers may feel the lure of a club with the history and resources of United is impossible to turn down.
