Jose Mourinho has spoken out on Chelsea's transfer ban being halved and what impact that will have for Tottenham.

Jose Mourinho is adamant that the lifting of Chelsea’s transfer ban will do nothing to help their ambitions of finishing in the top four.

The Centre of Arbitration for Sport on Friday upheld the club’s appeal against the year-long sanction over their signing of overseas youth players, agreeing that a two-window ban was too harsh.

UEFA rules mean the south west London club can now sign up to three new players in January.

However former Blues boss Mourinho, now in charge of fierce London rivals Tottenham, has no concerns that the decision will make it even harder for his own side to bridge the nine-point gap to Chelsea, currently occupying the Premier League’s final Champions League position.

“I’m not worried with that,” he said. “First, I’m not looking to the distance from Chelsea.

“Between us and Chelsea [there are] still two or three teams, so we cannot look so high and so far.

“Second – even with the transfer ban lifted, it is not easy to get better players than they have.

“They have very good players.

“Even with the ban gone and a hypothetical multi-million budget, I’m not sure they can get much better players than they have.”

Spurs slumped to a first defeat under Mourinho away at another of his former clubs, Manchester United, in midweek.

And the Portuguese has demanded a reaction from his squad, insisting: ‘Don’t get sad, get angry’.

Mourinho felt his side did not match the intensity of the Red Devils when they lost 2-1 at Old Trafford.

But he was more worried about the reaction in the dressing room afterwards.

“One of the things I said was that I saw a sad dressing room, a sad bus and a sad plane and that’s not what I like after a defeat,” he said.

“After a defeat you cannot be sad. You have to be more than that. You have to be raging, angry. Not sad. Being sad will not resolve your problems.

“It’s obvious we have problems, that’s no doubt. But we have players with quality, a great human dressing room.

“But we have to change the feeling of feeling sorry for mistakes and sadness for bad results. We need to be more than that.”

The games are coming thick and fast and with Tottenham entertaining Burnley tomorrow, Mourinho feels he is not getting the time he needs to stamp his mark onto the squad.

“Yesterday was complete recovery and today the second recovery day,” he said. “The conditions to work are not the best. Less work, more analysis, meeting, talk.

“I am not a meetings coach; I’m a pitch coach. That’s where I like to coach and where we can accelerate the process.

“Let’s way until next week where we have Bayern match where I’m going to rest some players and will work with the players who are not going to be involved and let’s wait for the week before the Chelsea game.

“It’s on the pitch where we can improve things. But to analyse, comment and coach in the meeting room helps.

“Hopefully we get some positive things after some negative things we have had.”

Tottenham face Burnley at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at 3pm, with fourth-placed Chelsea travelling to Everton at the earlier time of 12.30pm.
