Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has responded to reports that Erling Haaland is on his way to Old Trafford for transfer talks.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has responded to reports that Erling Haaland is on his way to Old Trafford for transfer talks. Reports suggested that Haaland is due to land in Manchester this morning with United having been strongly linked to the Norwegian star.

Solskjaer previously managed RB Salzburg star Haaland at Molde and is known to be interested in the 19-year-old.

But the United boss denied that Haaland was on the way to talk to him on Friday.

Solskjaer said: “I don’t think he’s en route here, to be fair, not through me anyway.

“You know I can’t comment on other teams’ players, I’ve said that many times and that’s just one of those things in this job you get speculation a lot of the time.

"He's not coming to Manchester. I know the boy and his friends and he's on a Christmas holiday.

“You can't fly anywhere from Stavanger, you need to via [somewhere].

And when pressed on whether he will see Haaland while he is in Manchester, Solskjaer simply responded: “No.”

It comes after United boss Solskjaer admitted his interest in Haaland earlier this week.

The Red Devils manager had said: "He is a player I like. We are looking for good players all the time.

"Erling has had a good development, so he has to develop further wherever he decides.

“I don’t need to talk so much about him, but we as a team always look for players who can complement the others we have, and then we see what we end up with.

"It’s the most important thing with all the players, after all, wherever they go, that they thrive where you are."

United are facing the prospect of paying up to ï¿¡100m for Haaland, which would trump the club-record fee they forked out for Paul Pogba in 2016.

Haaland would expect to slot straight into Solskjaer’s first team, alongside the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

United face Watford on Sunday as they seek to close the gap on the Premier League’s top four.

The Old Trafford outfit currently sit four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea after 17 games.
