A second-half winner from Kevin van Veen earned Scunthorpe a 1-0 victory over Grimsby in the Lincolnshire derby at Blundell Park.
Meeting for the first time in a league fixture since 2005, it was a frantic start from both sides – but there were few attempts during the early stages.
As the clock ticked past 15 minutes, Matt Green burst through and took aim, only to be denied by the out-rushing Jake Eastwood.
Next up to the plate was Max Wright, who struck the base of the post as Grimsby went on the counter.
Upon the restart, a snap-shot from Wright needed to be dealt with by Eastwood, while Kgosi Ntlhe soon tested James McKeown at the other end.
Luke Waterfall blazed over the crossbar against one of his former clubs – shortly before the match-winning moment came.
Scunthorpe opened up their arch rivals for the first time, with Dutchman van Veen picking up the pieces to loft over McKeown and into the back of the net.
