Cardiff star Joe Bennett shows off gruesome eye injury after clashing heads with TEAM-MATE Junior Hoilett

CARDIFF left-back Joe Bennett has posted a gruesome photo of his hugely-swollen eye - following a collision with "concrete headed" team-mate Junior Hoilett.

Bennett was carried off and substituted after both players were floored when they clashed heads in Sunday's 2-1 Championship win at promotions rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

But former England Under-21 star Bennett seemed more amazed than dazed when he tweeted afterwards.

The ex-Aston Villa defender said: "@jrhoilett23 your head is made of concrete 😂😅 all good though no fracture. Great result from the boys."

Robert Glatzel and Hoilett had put Cardiff 2-0 up inside the first eight minutes before Sam Lees nodded the Owls back into it.

But late in the first half Bennett and Hoilett collided worryingly as they leapt to head the ball.

'STILL THE BEST-LOOKER'

Medics from both teams dashed to treat the stricken duo as they lay holding their heads

Hoilett was eventually able to get up and stay on for the rest of the game, but Bennett was taken off on a stretcher.

And after he posted an update on his condition, a swarm of fans on social media wished him well.

Luke Middleton posted: "Hope for a speedy recovery. From an Owl. At least your three points may take away some of the pain, fair play."

And a few Bluebirds' supporters took the opportunity to have a dig at Bennett's team-mates.

Such comments included: "Still the best looking lad in the squad mate, I wouldn’t worry."

Victory lifted Cardiff to tenth, two points and four places below Wednesday in the last play-off spot.
