Mikel Arteta coy on Arsenal's interest in Jerome Boateng

Boateng linked with Arsenal

Arsenal's defence has not exactly been great this season.

Granted, Mikel Arteta looks to have improved the likes of David Luiz and Sokratis slightly during his short tenure as manager of the club.

But even so, Arsenal's backline doesn't really look like one that would be challenging for a Champions League place.

The Gunners were then handed a major defensive blow last week with it being reported that Calum Chambers is expected to be out for 6-9 months.

Now, with the January transfer window open, the North London outfit are being linked with a number of centre-backs.

The Telegraph reported that Dayot Upamecano, Nathan Ake and Daniele Rugani are all thought to be in Arsenal's thoughts.

Another central defender linked with the Gunners recently was Bayern Munich's, Jerome Boateng.

But when Bayern boss Hans-Dieter Flick recently spoke about Boateng, he stated he couldn't imagine Boateng leaving the club at the moment:

"Jerome is a Bayern player.

"He has trained well during the winter break.

"I can't wait to see what the next few weeks will be like. I'm not worrying about if he'll leave the club or not. I can't imagine that at the moment." As quoted by the Mirror.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has since been asked about the North London outfit's interest in Boateng.

The Gunners saw off Leeds United by one goal to nil in the 3rd round of the FA Cup on Monday.

After the tie, the Spaniard held his post-match press conference and was asked if there is any interest in Boateng.

But the former Manchester City coach remained rather coy when giving his answer, stating they don't talk about any transfers:

"We don't talk about any transfers and we are working on a few things. When the club has something to say I will let you know." As quoted by football.london.
