Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign a striker in the January transfer window.

Manchester United have identified Moussa Dembele and Raul Jimenez as two potential transfer targets as they up their plans to sign a striker this month. The club are said to be aware that deals for either would prove difficult in the January transfer window.

Solskjaer has paid the price for failing to replace Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the summer after letting them leave for Inter Milan.

However now according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, plans are in place to bring in a new No 9 and two names have emerged as potential targets.

“They are looking to sign another forward,” Solhekol said on the Transfer Podcast.

“You could argue the case that they haven’t really replaced Romelu Lukaku given all the goals that he scored for them as he moved to Inter Milan.

“A couple of players they’re looking at we’ve spoken about a lot Moussa Dembele who is at Lyon.

“He would like to come back to England but the problem is Lyon don’t want to sell him this month because they’re still in the Champions League.

“That’s going to be a difficult deal to do, although I think he would want to play for Manchester United.

“Another one that is really interesting is the Wolves striker Raul Jimenez.

“The latest information we have is that Manchester United are interested in signing him.

“It would be a very, very difficult deal to do because he has been playing so well for Wolves since moving there initially on loan from Benfica and then Wolves made that a permanent deal for around £30million.

“He’s scored goals since he’s been at Wolves and he has been identified by Manchester United as a player they’re interested in, a player they have been watching very, very closely.

“I find it difficult to believe Wolves would sell him in January.”

Jimenez is a player that has displayed his quality under the watchful eye of Solskjaer, in four meetings between Wolves and United since he took over from Jose Mourinho.

Speaking in the wake of the recent 0-0 draw the clubs played out in the FA Cup third round, Solskjaer issued a response to links with the Mexican.

“Another good player being linked with us,” Solskjaer said last weekend.

“He came on and did really well. Loads of players are being linked with us. I can’t comment on speculation.”

When quizzed on whether it’s possible that Jimenez leaves Molineux in January, Nuno Espirito Santo refused to rule anything out.

“It’s the first time I heard it,” said Santo. “Ole didn’t mention anything about that.

“The transfer window is open. When it is open anything can happen.

“As managers we have to be ready because anything can happen. We are very happy with Raul.”
