Exeter ease to victory against Cambridge to extend League Two run to nine games

Exeter maintained their promotion push in Sky Bet League Two and extended their unbeaten run to nine league games with a solid 2-0 win at home to Cambridge.
The only talking point of a dire first half was when referee James Oldham had to be replaced after getting injured, leading to nine minutes of stoppage time.
Lee Martin had the best chance of the game in that stoppage time when he was played through, but he took too long to get a shot away and Dimitar Mitov saved.
Cambridge started the second half well with Harvey Knibbs drilling a shot against the foot of the post. Exeter got the breakthrough as Ryan Bowman swept home from close range in the 54th minute after terrific work down the right by Nicky Law.
Law drilled a shot narrowly wide as the game opened up at last and Archie Collins drilled a shot too high as Exeter took control.
Cambridge should have equalised after 71 minutes but Liam O’Neil sliced wide with the goal at his mercy and Randell Williams made him pay when he smashed from 10 yards with eight minutes remaining to complete the victory.
