Yems believes Crawley players are buying into club ethos

Crawley head coach John Yems feels that his side are buying into what the club are trying to do after rounding off the week with seven points out of nine.
The Reds’ 3-1 home victory over Scunthorpe had come after a 2-2 draw at Plymouth and a 3-2 home success against Grimsby, and Yems believes steady progress is being made.
The 60-year-old, who replaced Italian Gabriele Cioffi in early December, has lost only two of his 12 league games in charge and the latest success followed the award of a new three-year deal.
The Reds effectively made the game safe in the first half with goals from Jordan Tunnicliffe, Reece Grego-Cox and Ollie Palmer, before Kevin Van Veen replied with a penalty for Scunthorpe after the break.
Crawley are 13th and Yems said:” I don’t look at the table; you finish where you deserve to be.
“I approach every game as it comes and it is a credit to the team and subs because they are buying into what we are trying to do. ”
The Reds are unbeaten in their last six home league games since November 23, and Yems added:” I can’t fault them; we thoroughly deserved it.
“It is another three points away from relegation and you build momentum. Winning breeds winning and the fans are behind the team.”
Russ Wilcox stepped up from his role as Scunthorpe Under-23 boss to manage the team in a caretaker capacity following the sacking of Paul Hurst and his assistant Chris Doig in midweek.
Wilcox, who has a long affinity with Scunthorpe as a player and a manager, is to meet with chairman Peter Swann on Monday and he is to continue his under-23 role.
He said: “I am meeting the chairman on Monday to see the next step. I would like to carry it forward, I am also enjoying the under-23 role. ”
Wilcox was critical of his side for “giving Crawley a 3-0 start” but was pleased with the way they responded in the second half.
He added:” You can’t give teams 3-0 starts and the warning signs were there in the first 90 seconds.
“We had spoken about it. Away from home you don’t give them a lead, and that’s exactly what we did.
“But I`m really pleased with the way we responded after the break. We could have crumbled, but we got on the front foot and had Crawley worried.
“Recent performances have been good, but we’ve got to be better without the ball.”
