Northampton could be boosted by return of Jordan Turnbull against Port Vale

Northampton defender Jordan Turnbull should be back in contention against Port Vale.

Turnbull suffered a hip injury against Derby in the FA Cup on January 24 and has missed Town’s subsequent three fixtures. He resumed training this week and is expected to return to the squad.

However, Saturday’s game will come too soon for James Olayinka. The January signing has a foot problem and is around a week to 10 days away from being available.

Lloyd Jones, Callum Morton and Mark Marshall return to contention after being ineligible for the cup replay at Derby in midweek, while Alan McCormack continues his gradual return to first-team action.

Tom Pope could be pushing for a place in the Vale starting line up.

The experienced striker has made two substitute appearances following a one-match suspension and he will hope to have done enough to get back into the team.

Centre-back Nathan Smith (hamstring) is likely to be sidelined for another three weeks while on-loan Nottingham Forest defender Jake Taylor (knee) is expected back early next month.

Vale have won only once away in the league since the start of November but John Askey’s side are just three points adrift of the play-off places.
