Sunderland without Joel Lynch for clash with Ipswich

Sunderland defender Joel Lynch will miss Saturday’s League One showdown with promotion rivals Ipswich following a nasty collision with his own goalkeeper.

Lynch will sit out under the concussion protocol after being knocked unconscious in a clash with Jon McLaughlin during last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Portsmouth which also saw him undergo scans for potential knee and rib injuries.

Striker Charlie Wyke is also a doubt after aggravating a shoulder problem in a challenge with Pompey keeper Alex Bass.

Midfielder Grant Leadbitter, who has not played since coming on as a late substitute in the 3-1 home victory over Lincoln on January 4, will not be involved having been given leave of absence to deal with personal issues.

Ipswich midfielder Gwion Edwards is suspended for the trip to Wearside after reaching 10 bookings for the season.

Edwards got into double figures during last weekend’s 4-1 home defeat by Peterborough and is banned for away fixtures against the Black Cats and AFC Wimbledon.

Janoi Donacien, who last appeared at Lincoln on January 29, is among the contenders as manager Paul Lambert looks for a replacement.

Midfielder Emyr Huws did not make the 18 last Saturday after damaging an ankle during the 1-0 midweek defeat at Rotherham, although Cole Skuse, James Norwood and Jon Nolan all did.
